Note: SDSU wireless does not support wireless printers, please purchase a printer cord.

Want a hardwire connection?

All residence halls have wireless internet that residents may activate and use at no additional cost. A hardwire internet connection is also available at an additional cost of a $40 non-refundable installation charge and a $20 per month non-refundable service charge. If service is cancelled for any reason before the end of the academic year, there will be a $10 cancellation charge.

Changing rooms and/or halls, for any reason, will require a new request for service and a new installation charge. No cancellation charge for the first service will be charged.

Residents in halls that are not open over the breaks (Cuicacalli, Maya, Olmeca, and Zura) will not be charged a service charge in January. Residents in halls open over the breaks (Chapultepec, Tenochca and University Towers) will be charged a service charge in January whether they are present and/or use the service during the break periods.

To Sign up for a hardwire internet connection, please visit the RezCon office located on the 1st floor of the Olmeca Residence Hall with the number written on the jack in your room. Service will begin on the 1st of the month following sign up or, upon request, service will begin retroactively on the 1st of the month during which the request is made.

Slow Internet Connection?

Before contacting RezCon about your internet connection, please try the following:

  1. The wireless connection is some of the halls may be spotty, what we recommend to move your computer around your room and see your connection has been improved.
  2. You may be connected to the access point which is not closest to you, you should disconnect from SDSU_Wireless and reconnect.
  3. Make sure you do not have anything interfering with your connection, using a microwave, for example, can cause a slower connection.
  4. Run a full scan of your AntiVirus program to make sure you are virus free.

If you have done all of the above, and are still having issues, please click here.

Note: If you experience slow internet connections outside of the Residence Halls, this is an issue with your personal computer.

Curious about network policies?

You have to remember, Internet here is a free, shared service, and we take things very seriously if someone violates SDSU policies. Here's a link to the Acceptable Use Policy for the Halls:

http://security.sdsu.edu/policy/housing-aup.html

If you violate that policy, the punishment can be pretty steep. You might have your connection shut off by the SDSU IT Security Office (ITSO) and/or Telecommunications and Network Services (TNS), and you'll have to pay a $50 reconnection fee, as well as waiting for your Internet to be reconnected. If you've got the bad habit of illegally downloading copyrighted material, you should drop it now. It may just be a charge and some time without Internet for the first offense, but the second offense results in you getting disconnected for the rest of the academic year.

Common Shut-Off Reasons

Virus Infection

If you get a virus, at best, it'll waste a lot of network resources trying to find new hosts and slowing things down for everyone else, and at worse, compromise other computers and create a giant mess. In either case, you'll get shut off for it, and have to pay that $50 fee.

Routers, Switches, and Wireless Access Points

There's wireless Internet everywhere on campus. Seriously. Everywhere. Don't bring a Router or a WAP for it. And Switches aren't allowed either. Misconfigured, any of these devices can cause serious network problems- from slow speeds, to network outages. And if that happens, you'll be shut off, and have to pay that $50 fee.

The only exception is the LLC, and even then, that's only for RezCon-issued hubs.

Special Note: File Sharing

Illegal downloading of copyrighted material (such as movies, music, or video games) using programs such as MyTunes, BitTorrent, Limewire, or Ares (to name a few), is against SDSU policy. If you get caught, your internet will get shut off and you will have to pay a $50 fee to have it reconnected, the second time is $75 and If it happens for the third time, you will be permanently disconnected from the SDSU network.
