If you are having problems connecting to the RezCon network or running the RezCon Installer, one of the problems listed below could easily be the culprit. Please try each one and see if that fixes your problems.
-
Make sure you are using the right cable.
- If you are using the wired connection to connect to the RezCon network, you need an Ethernet cable. A normal telephone cable will not work. To make sure you have the right cable, compare the ends of your cable to the picture below. It should have 8 wires and 8 golden pin connections.

- If you are in the LLC, please be aware that a different type of cable is required if you are not using a Hub. Below is a picture of an LLC cable. One end will have six wires and six golden pins, while the other side will have eight wires and eight golden pins.

-
Make sure you are plugging your cable into the right jack.
- Each room has a minimum of one telephone jack and one ethernet jack. You should be plugging yours into the Orange jack.
-
Make sure your laptop's Wireless switch is on.
- One of the most frequently overlooked problems is that of a laptop's wireless switch. This switch is normally located on the sides or front of your laptop, and turns the wireless on or off. Alternatively, it could be a key combination on your keyboard (for example, Fn + F3). Make sure to try switching it to on to make sure you can connect to SDSU_Wireless.
-
- Browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari save web pages to your computer for faster browsing. This can cause them to show that saved web page (in this case, the "you need to activate page") instead of loading the proper page.
- To fix this for Windows, press the "F5" key.
- To fix this for Mac, press the Apple + R keys (also known as Command + R)
- If the message will still not go away, try going to any other web sites besides the one that doesn't work. Chances are any other web sites you go to will work fine. On some computers (especially Macs), forcing the page to Reload doesn't always work, which means that for that web site you will just have to wait until it finishes.

I tried what you said and it still says I need to activate!
- You can also try deleting your temporary Internet files. Below is how you do this for each major browser.
- Mozilla Firefox: Click on Tools, then click Clear Private Data. Uncheck everything except for Cache, then click Clear Private Data now. Close Firefox and reopen it.
- Internet Explorer: Click on Tools, then Internet Options. Under Browsing History, click Delete. Click the "Delete files..." button for Temporary Internet Files. Close Internet Explorer and reopen it.
- Apple Safari: Click on the Safari menu item, then click Empty Cache. On the box that pops up, click Empty. Close Safari and reopen it.
-
- Run the Installer again and be sure to select Yes to run the Norton Removal Tool. Norton tends to leave files leftover even after uninstalling it.

The jack in my room doesn't work!
- As mentioned above, make sure you are using the right cable and plugging it into the right jack.
- If you are in Cuicicalli or Villa Alverado, and the jack you are plugging it into is a single jack with a blue light above it in a box that sticks out from the wall, then you are in a room where the Wireless Access Point for your suite has been installed. Unfortunately, the jacks in these rooms do not work. You will have to purchase a wireless adapter in order to connect.
